The Collaboration

A collaboration in between La Vallée Village (luxury shopping destination located near Paris) and the first Révélations biennial was established to promote fine craft and its transmission, giving visibility to 3 highly talented artisans and artists from the world of fashion and HauteCouture. The Village created for the three artists a dedicated podium to present their work for the duration of the Révélations fair, offering them international visibility and many interesting professional contacts.
The idea for this booth at Révélations was to bring to light the link between the traditions of artisanship and contemporary creation, between the past and the future. The 3 artists were selected for their ability to demonstrate how the new generation of artisans were reinventing fine crafts with an exciting and very desirable eye whilst endorsing the long tradition of made by hand, with passion and dedication.

The three young artists

Janaïna MILHEIRO

Janaïna Milheiro creates high-end weaving and embroidery for fashion and home interiors using bird feathers. Her collections include unique feathered silks and laces, most pieces being one-off creations. Her ‘feather fabrics’ illustrate a marriage between thread, textiles and feathers. These surprising and delicate creations bring to life a unique graphic vision of feathers. The virtuosity of her artisanal silk weaving is enhanced by feathers applied to the weft by hand. The feathers merge and dance with the thread, imbuing the fabric with a sense of vitality.
Janaïna now creates pieces for some of the most prestigious luxury houses such as Hermès, Cartier, Valentino.

Christine PHUNG

Christine’s aesthetic is one of paradoxes. Her brightly coloured, pop-inspired prints mix artisanal techniques, such as pleating and patchwork, with contemporary graphic design. Her fashion creations make use of rare techniques and fine materials such as silk and cashmere while remaining accessible to a wide audience.
Christine was the winner of the ANDAM 2013 prize in the ‘First Collections’ category. She is now the Creative Director of Léonard Paris and founder of the independent French label Christine Phung.

After the fair an exhibition was held in La Vallée Village’s Art Gallery, inviting visitors to a unique encounter with the creative arts: videos of the artists in their workshops, presentation of their tools and raw material turned into works of art. Visitors were also able to meet the artists and learn of their art in live demonstrations. La Vallée Village is the 3rd most visited culture and leisure destination around Paris, with 6 million visitors annually (French and international), this exhibition was thus an extraordinary opportunity for the artists to meet a large public.
