Japanese incense box, wood from the temples of Kyōto

Sale price€55,00

In the temples of Kyōto, surrounded by tall trees, where the old floors creak underfoot, psalms escape behind closed doors and wisps of incense scent the air.

This unique atmosphere is all concentrated in this pretty box made of light paulownia wood (kiribako), which contains 300 long sticks of traditional Japanese incense, made from a mixture of wood and fragrant materials, just like those you might smell in a temple. Each stick burns for 33 minutes.

This incense was created by Toyoda Aizando, who has been based in Kyōto for several centuries, and who, in association with the nearby Chion-in temple, creates incense and objects for religious use in particular.

An incense that will complement our elegant brass Japanese incense holder, available here.
