LARGE TALL JAPANESE PLATE (OR TRAY) IN CHESTNUT WOOD
A spectacular large plate (or platter), very heavy (900gr), of contemporary Japanese craftsmanship, created by the talented Kyoto-based designer Shigeo Mashiro. This plate with its foot is made from chestnut wood, hand-dyed using Japanese mugwort (yomogi), and is entirely hand-carved by patiently chiselling a piece of wood (chestnut wood is a hard wood, and therefore more difficult to work).
Suitable for food use, this object can be used either as a plate or tray on which to place food, or as a decorative object on which to place a few treasures. A beautiful object that is the quintessence of the Mingei spirit.
