Box of 30 hinoki wood chopsticks
In a beautiful hinoki wood box, 30 chopsticks with a rich history await contemporary tables. Each chopstick, made from yoshino cedar trees in Shimoichi, is adorned with a small paper ring in 30 different colors.
The Nara prefecture where Shimoichi is located is known for its forests of yoshino cedar, sugi, a wood of incomparable softness.
For thousands of years, cedar has been used in construction and furniture in Japan. These chopsticks (hashi in Japanese) are carved from the remains of sugi cedar wood, aiming to create a virtuous circle of sustainable use in order to reduce the felling of trees only for chopstick making.
Lovers of Japan will be delighted by the delicate and addictive smell of wood that emanates from this box and its chopsticks.
