Chestnut wood and black urushi lacquer bowl, itosuji decoration

Sale price€97,00

This delicate bowl is hand-turned from chestnut ( kuri ) wood, a local species carefully selected for its smooth grain and lightness. Its understated, clean silhouette gives the bowl an elegant and balanced presence. The fine, even striations created during turning that adorn the entire interior and exterior surface—referred to in Japanese as itosuji —provide a refined visual and tactile texture, enhanced by the deep black of the black urushi lacquer.

Crafted using traditional lacquering techniques, this bowl is coated with black urushi lacquer ( kuro urushi ), carefully brushed onto the wood after careful preparation. The deep black of the lacquer echoes the bowl's sleek refinement, while also highlighting the subtle grooves created during the turning process.

This bowl was crafted by Senwood Studio, located in Kaga, Yamanaka Onsen, Ishikawa Prefecture, a center of Japanese lacquerware renowned for its exquisite turning and skilled craftsmen. Senwood Studio works exclusively with Japanese woods, combining traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design.

This bowl comes in a cardboard box.
