Ruri-yū vase (lapis lazuli glaze) by Kazuhiko Sato

Sale price€1.100,00

A stunning vase in luminous blue and gray tones, a highly decorative piece whose presence captures the eye and enhances the space in which it is placed. This unique piece, which conveys profound emotion, is the work of Kazuhiko Sato.

For this vase he used a combination of Shigaraki and Seto clays with quartz inclusions and a so-called lapis lazuli glaze (ruri-yū) giving very beautiful blue and gray tones, obtained thanks to the addition of cobalt oxides. Sato san shaped this vase by hand with an extremely complicated personal technique, which gives the surface its rough and sandy side and this form that is both organic and very balanced. A work of contemporary art while being timeless and deeply Japanese.

This vase is signed at its base “SATOH” (Kazuhiko Sato’s usual signature) and 1994 (year of its creation), in Roman letters, as well as the artist's coat of arms. It comes with an unsigned wooden protective box closed with a braided sanadahimo cord.
