A magnificent tall plate (or small tray), very heavy (730g), made by contemporary Japanese craftsmen and designed by the talented Kyoto-based designer Shigeo Mashiro. This plate with its foot is made from chestnut wood, hand-dyed using Japanese mugwort (yomogi), and is entirely hand-carved by patiently chiselling a piece of wood (chestnut wood is a hard wood, and therefore more difficult to work). Its imperfection is what makes it perfect.


Suitable for food use, this object can be used either as a plate or tray on which to place food, or as a decorative or display object on which to place a few treasures. A beautiful object that is the quintessence of the Mingei spirit.
