White porcelain footed plate (baekja) by Hyun Taeju

Sale price€78,00
Dimension:

These footed plates by Hyun Taeju are distinguished by their precise proportions and the tranquility they exude. The porcelain, softened white by firing, reflects the ceramicist's taste for simple and elegant forms. Designed to accommodate fruit, sweets, or delicate dishes, they reflect a sensitivity deeply rooted in the Korean tradition of everyday life.

The ceramist
Hyun Taeju, founder of 100 Mok Workroom, is a Korean ceramicist based in Seoul. A graduate of the Department of Ceramics at Seoul National University, he pursues research on Korean white porcelain, or baekja (white porcelain), in his studio. His work focuses on revealing the structural simplicity of forms while preserving the density and texture of the material. Hyun Taeju seeks in each piece a balance between precision and naturalness, continuity and renewal, in line with the purest Korean ceramics.

The technique and the decor
Each plate is hand-turned and then mounted on a hollow cylindrical base, which gives it both stability and visual lightness. Made of white porcelain covered with a very fine transparent glaze, they reveal the texture of the paste and a few tiny ferruginous dots. In Korea, footed plates and bowls belong to a long tradition of presentation objects, once intended for ritual offerings or shared sweets. Hyun Taeju offers a contemporary interpretation here, faithful to the spirit of simplicity and balance that runs through Korean tableware.
