Tokinoha studio ceramic tall plate with copper glaze

Sale price€157,00

A raised plate that sits elegantly on a table to showcase a pastry, for example, or as a decorative piece on which to place a cherished object. Its rounded silhouette and deep blue glaze give it a refined presence, in the spirit of Kyoto Japanese ceramics.

The ceramicist
Founded in Kyoto by Daisuke and Tomoe Kiyomizu, the Tokinoha studio distinguishes itself through an approach that connects traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design (Daisuke is a descendant of the famous Kiyomizu family, guardians of the Kyoto kiyomizu-yaki tradition). The pieces, handcrafted by the studio's ceramicists, bear the mark of reflection on simplicity and texture, seeking to express the beauty of everyday life through pure and balanced forms.

The technique and finish
This substantial pedestal plate is covered in a copper glaze that develops a deep blue, punctuated by brown and turquoise highlights, during firing. This type of glaze, characteristic of the research conducted at the Tokinoha studio, features a slightly granular surface and a subtle luster due to the uneven fusion of the copper at high temperatures. Depending on the thickness of the glaze and variations in the kiln, the color densifies or lightens, creating the subtle transitions and almost metallic vibration unique to Tokinoha pieces.
