Chamotte stoneware plate-tray with blue geometric decoration by Tarō Kamoda (son)

Sale price€380,00

This large rectangular plate, similar to a tray, highlights the subtle balance of its materials and the graphic strength of its design. The deliberately sandblasted chamotte stoneware base, with its dense and vibrant mineral texture, gives this piece a very wabi-sabi feel. The surface is finely incised according to a geometric pattern composed of circular segments and angular figures, in a rhythmic and elegant composition.

The hollows thus traced are then enhanced with a deep blue enamel, applied in several layers. The contrast between the grainy mattness of the background and the silky polish of the patterns creates a surprising play of surfaces, inviting both to the eye and to the touch.

Signed on the reverse, this piece is the work of Tarō Kamoda, born in 1963 and son of the very famous Japanese ceramist Tarō Kamoda (1933-1983), whose aesthetic he perpetuates today. Inspired by his father's formal research, he in turn explores the relationships between texture, form and enamel in his contemporary creations. He continues his activity in Mashiko (prefecture of Tochigi), a mecca of Japanese ceramics, where he works in the Kamoda-gama family kiln, perpetuating a tradition of excellence in the research of materials and enamels.

With its generous dimensions and sculptural presence, this tray plate can be used as a centerpiece on a table, a presentation tray or a pocket emptier, bringing a very contemporary Japanese touch to any interior.
