Ash-glazed katakuchi from the Tokinoha studio

Sale price€118,00

Katakuchi, a Japanese vessel characterized by its pouring spout, it lends itself to multiple uses, at the table as well as around the home. Its green glaze, nuanced with soft blues, offers beautiful depth, while its darker core catches the light and fine brown drips subtly enliven the interior. Balanced and refined, it can be used daily or simply displayed as a decorative object.

The ceramist
Founded in Kyoto by Daisuke and Tomoe Kiyomizu, the Tokinoha studio is distinguished by an approach that connects traditional craftsmanship with modern design (Daisuke is a descendant of the famous Kiyomizu family, guardians of the Kyoto kiyomizu-yaki tradition). The pieces, handmade by the studio’s ceramists, bear the mark of a reflection on simplicity and texture, seeking to express the beauty of everyday life through pure and balanced forms.

Technique and decoration
A glazed Japanese ceramic piece, this katakuchi features an ash glaze (haiyū) giving it this nuanced green that can lean toward a pale blue near the rim. The finely drawn network of crackles (kannyū) covers the surface and enhances the effect of depth. In the center, a slight accumulation of glaze creates a darker tone. The browned internal drips signal the fusion of the glaze and the presence of natural oxides derived from the earth and the ash.
