Small chawanmushi bowl in ceramic and copper glaze from the Tokinoha workshop

Sale price€115,00

This small Japanese bowl with a lid is designed for chawanmushi (savory custard) and also finds its place on the table for appetizers or as a pretty decorative object. Its slender conical silhouette and deep blue glaze give it a refined presence, in the spirit of Japanese ceramics from Kyoto.

The ceramist
Founded in Kyoto by Daisuke and Tomoe Kiyomizu, the Tokinoha workshop is distinguished by an approach that combines traditional craftsmanship and contemporary design (Daisuke is part of a secondary branch of the famous Kiyomizu family, guardians of Kyoto's kiyomizu-yaki tradition). The pieces, handmade by the workshop's ceramists, bear the mark of a reflection on simplicity and texture, seeking to express the beauty of everyday life through pure and balanced forms.

The technique and the decor
This chawanmushi chawan (savory custard bowl) is covered with a copper glaze that develops a deep blue punctuated by brown and turquoise highlights during firing. This type of glaze, characteristic of the research carried out at the Tokinoha workshop, has a slightly grainy surface and a subtle sheen due to the uneven melting of the copper at high temperatures. Depending on the thickness of the glaze and variations in firing, the color thickens or lightens, creating the subtle transitions and almost metallic vibration characteristic of Tokinoha pieces.
