Wooden tray/plate in Korean ottchil lacquer

Sale price€138,00

The application of ottchil lacquer is a traditional Korean method, 2000 years old, using the resin of the lacquer tree as a glue and a protective element on objects, notably in wood (but also in metal, fabric and ceramics). A complex and ancestral technique, of which this plate is the perfect example.

On a hand-carved urimo wood (a traditional Korean wood) that keeps a perfectly imperfect organic shape as a tribute to nature, 2 layers of ottchil lacquer have been applied during a tedious process of pausing, drying and sanding, leaving the wood's veins visible. The result is a beautiful piece, both precious and simple, in a beautiful matt black colour, perfectly suited to a contemporary interior.

To be used as a very decorative presentation plate, or as a tray for tea or to hold some precious objects.
