Ceramic cup or vase with copper glaze from the Tokinoha studio

Sale price€75,00

Tea cup, coffee cup, or delicate small vase whose slender, tall silhouette and deep blue glaze give it a refined presence, in the spirit of Kyōto Japanese ceramics.

The ceramicist
Founded in Kyōto by Daisuke and Tomoe Kiyomizu, the Tokinoha studio stands out for an approach that bridges traditional craftsmanship and contemporary design (Daisuke is a descendant of the famous Kiyomizu family, custodians of the Kiyomizu-yaki tradition of Kyōto). The pieces, handmade by the studio’s ceramicists, bear the mark of a reflection on simplicity and texture, seeking to express the beauty of everyday life through pure and balanced forms.

The technique and decoration
This tea cup, coffee cup, or small vase is covered with a copper glaze that develops a deep blue under firing, punctuated by brown and turquoise highlights. This type of glaze, characteristic of the research conducted at the Tokinoha studio, presents a slightly granular surface and a subtle luster due to the uneven fusion of the copper at high temperatures. Depending on the thickness of the glaze and variations in the firing, the color densifies or lightens, creating the subtle transitions and almost metallic vibration unique to Tokinoha pieces.
