Masako Masago semi-porcelain dobin teapot
This dobin teapot (top-handled teapot) by Masako Masago stands out for its perfect balance between lightness and presence. Its spherical shape, a soft, slightly milky white, is topped with a finely arched brass handle that emphasizes the purity of the line. Its capacity of approximately 500 ml makes it a functional and refined piece, designed for everyday tea moments.
The ceramist
Masako Masago is a contemporary Japanese ceramicist from Tottori Prefecture. Trained at the Kyoto University of Fine Arts, she later established her studio in Kyoto, where she creates pieces of great formal sobriety. Her work explores subtle variations of white through porcelain and half-porcelain (han jiki), favoring clean lines and precise proportions. Her creations, always imbued with great elegance, reflect a search for precision in the relationship between form, material, and use.
The technique and the decor
This teapot is made from a han jiki paste (semi-porcelain, mixture of clay and kaolin) fired at high temperature, which gives the surface a slightly ivory-tinted whiteness. The glaze is finely applied to preserve the softness of the grain, with a satiny matte finish typical of Masago's work. The handle, made of brass, is cut and bent by hand before being fixed onto the ceramic attachments shaped directly onto the body. The interior is covered with a clear vitrified glaze, suitable for everyday use for tea with its integrated filter (also in semi-porcelain). Pouring is precise and regular, thanks to a perfectly adjusted short spout and a well-fitting lid. The whole expresses a harmony between visual simplicity and artisanal rigor.

Care instructions
After use, empty the water and let it air dry (except for the handle, see below). Avoid abrasive products. Wipe with a soft cloth. No dishwasher, oven, or microwave. For the brass handle: Wipe immediately after use with a soft, dry cloth to avoid water or moisture stains, which can cause slight oxidation. If the surface becomes dull over time, the shine can be restored by gently rubbing it with a soft cloth lightly dampened with lemon juice or vinegar, then wiping thoroughly.
As each piece is created by hand, slight variations in shape, color or texture may appear compared to the photos, reflecting the unique nature of this artisanal work.
