Grey vase by Ken Mihara
This vase-sculpture by Ken Mihara concentrates everything that made this Japanese ceramist famous with its organic and sculptural form marked by deliberate cracks and tears, which symbolize natural forces and the passage of time. He worked with Hagi clay and created a work of gray and earthy hues through high temperature firing in traditional wood-fired kilns. Its technique is based on precise control of oxidation during firing, creating subtle color variations and giving a very contemporary spirit to this vase.
This vase is signed (engraving) by the artist at its base and is accompanied by its protective wooden box on which the name of the artist and his official seal are affixed and closed with a sanadahimo (braided cord), guaranteeing its authenticity. A rare and precious piece.
About Ken Mihara:
Ken Mihara, born in 1958 in Shimane (Japan), began his ceramic career after studying under the direction of master Kenji Funaki. He quickly gained international recognition through his exhibitions in Europe, the United States and Japan. His works are present in prestigious permanent collections such as those of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. In Japan, he won several major awards.
