Contemporary Moon Jar by Nuri Lee

A superb moon jar fashioned by Korean ceramicist Nuri Lee, which takes up, in a contemporary spirit, the classic shape of the dal hangari, a symbol of balance and serenity in Korean ceramics. Its full and slightly irregular curves, inspired by moon observation, its surface of a beautiful matte white, slightly milky and very soft, give it a tranquil presence. The ceramist
Nuri Lee is a Korean ceramicist based in Seoul. Since 2018, she has been developing a body of work centered on pure forms and an aesthetic of emptiness, where nature and everyday life interact with restraint. Her handcrafted pieces emphasize precise volumes and a sense of calm characteristic of Korean ceramics.

The technique and the decor
The moon jar, which appeared during the Joseon Dynasty, occupies a unique place in Korean ceramics. A symbol of purity, balance, and hope, it has long embodied the aesthetic ideal of white and the quest for imperfect perfection. It continues to inspire contemporary Korean ceramicists.
Entirely hand-thrown, this vase has a harmonious volume, slightly tapering towards the foot, faithful to the traditional silhouette. The exterior, left matte and unglazed, preserves the natural grain of the earth, while the interior is covered with a transparent glaze allowing it to be used as a vase. The jar is signed near the base.
