Small ceramic mamezara plate by Shihō Takada

Sale price€48,00

This tiny plate by Shihō Takada captivates with its grace and flower-inspired shape. Remarkably delicate, it evokes both lightness and restraint, in the refined spirit of Japanese ceramics crafted for everyday use. The softness of its gray hues, nuanced by the firing process, lends the piece a peaceful and timeless presence.

The ceramicist
Born in Nara in 1977, Shihō Takada studied fine arts at Kyoto University before continuing her research at the Kyoto Prefectural Ceramists' Technical Institute. She then studied under Shinzo Tomibe in Fushimi, Kyoto, before opening her own studio in Kameoka, in the same prefecture. Her work is distinguished by a constant search for balance between form and texture, and by an extreme attention to proportion. She explores porcelain and stoneware in delicate, almost sculptural forms, revealing a profound sensitivity to light and shadow.

The technique and the decor
This mamezara (small plate) is handcrafted with an ash glaze (haiyū) mixed with fine particles of charcoal (sumi), giving the surface a soft, slightly smoky gray tone. The nuances vary depending on the firing and the distribution of the charcoal, creating exquisitely delicate depth. Each piece thus retains a subtle trace of the fire and the hand, highlighting the fineness of the contours. The collection as a whole expresses a restrained beauty, characteristic of Japanese ceramics and the understated, poetic style of Shihō Takada.
Traditionally, mamezara are used in Japanese meals to present small portions, condiments, or sweets. This piece can also be used as a delicate trinket dish or an object of contemplation.
